Hope I can buy one of this HP Mini 2140 and give it to my girlfriend so that she will not borrow my LG RD405 anymore… But crisis is all over the land so I think it’s better to wait for the right time and for the item with the best price. Visit yugatech.com for the review of this laptop.

If you are eyeing and planning to get a notebook, and you are considering Eee PC’s that most people talks about, well, better  look for another model or brand (preferably Asus) that has the same price but much effiecient and has the ability to support everything  .  The reason is that Asus is phasing out the 8.9in Eee PCs within this year according to a company executive.  Even though a couple of high ranking official of Asus had indirectly said that the 8.9in Eee PC models will be phased out. The phasing out was mainly based on consumer preference for the 10in models which uses hard drives while the latter are using SSDs.

So, if you plan to buy notebook, make it as your habit to research first ten times….

When we talk about technology boys are always the one who are active with it. Boys have different gadgets, talk about gadgets, talks about programming, talks about anything and especially technological topics. But girls? well, fashions, about their new hair style and color of their finger nails. That is way back 19 century. This century is different because even girls must be “in” in terms of technology news and gadgets.

BARCELONA–Intel announced here Monday at the GSMA Mobile World Congress that LG Electronics will use its latest generation technology to build a new class of device called mobile Internet devices, or MIDs.

Specifically, Intel and LG will work together to build these new devices using a processor that Intel has code-named Moorestown. The devices will also use a version of the Linux open-source operating system called Moblin. The LG device is expected to be one of the first Moorestown designs to market. And Intel has said that devices using the new Moorestown chips will hit the market by 2010.

Intel and LG have already been working closely together on other products. In the fourth quarter last year, LG launched a Netbook using Intel’s Atom processor. And LG also ships full-fledged notebooks using Intel’s Core processor.

Now, the companies are working on a new class of product that are mini-computers that can also be used to make phone calls using a wireless Internet connection. Intel sees the category of product as something that is somewhere between a smartphone, like the Apple iPhone, and a Netbook, a scaled-down version of a notebook computer.

As the global economy continues to deteriorate, Intel, like many other large companies, is looking for growth markets. The company’s bread-and-butter PC processor business is suffering as people stop buying desktop computers.

Intel sees mobile devices, and specifically the MID market, as an important area for growth. While the overall cell phone market was down about 12.6 percent worldwide in the fourth quarter, according to IDC, smartphones were actually up about 22.5 percent. Read more…

IF THE YEAR 2008 WAS AN aisle in the marketplace of ideas, the tech industry’s shakers and movers needed more shelves to fill them with bestsellers. This year’s most-wanted gadgets had something for everyone, even perhaps the Luddites. Consider:

1. iPhone 3G. Like its touch-sensing predecessor that started it all, iPhone is attracting hordes of fanatics. The first iPhone landed in the 2007 Time Gadget of the year and appeared in “Sex and the City”—indicators of its pop-culture caché. The great add-on this year is its 3G power!

2. Samsung Omnia. The god of small things made it a point to make Samsung Omnia the only touchscreen phone with Windows compatibility.

3. Nokia N96. Designed to be Nokia’s 2008 flagship phone, this gadget offers 5MP camera, stabilizer for its MPEG4 format videos and an expandable 16GB memory, among other cool features.

4. Mac Air and Pro. Mac’s slimmest version fits right inside a Manila envelope—a hip, hip creation. The Mac Pro, however, is the bomb—the fastest, strongest and lap-toughest Mac ever with 2.8 GHz processor and 800 MHz DDr2 fully buffered memory, making it the Mac tower of power.

5. Nintendo Wii. As if 3D isn’t enough to define the 21st century’s contribution to gaming, ensuring the virtual extinction of 2D versions of Mario Brothers and his brethren, Nintendo Wii weeds out the wires from its consoles and turns the sofa into the playpen. No wonder Wii is eBay’s hottest find this year. Read more…

Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a storage device and is variously called a USB flash drive (UFD). Technically, the industry refers to these devices as UFDs, though consumers are mostly unfamiliar with the acronym, more often using terms like memory stick, thumb drive, or flash drive. They are little storage units that have been fast replacing floppy disks and CD storage.

Lexar USB drives are small, portable device about the size of a BIC lighter or package of gum. The body is an encased circuit board with a memory chip, with one end featuring an integrated USB connector. This connector can slide into a USB port on nearly any computer, making the device ideal for quickly transferring data or programs. USB ports support “plug and play” functionality so that a computer does not have to reboot to recognize the device or to disconnect from it. Modern operating systems also have built-in support for memory sticks, negating the need to load device drivers.

Lexar USB drive has no moving parts and requires very little power. Nearly impervious to casual abuse, the UFD has replaced the less robust floppy drive and a handful of other storage, transfer or backup devices. Memory storage varies according to model, ranging from megabytes (MB) to gigabytes (GB). Light, small and tough, these flash drives are the perfect compliment for any computer user.

There are quite a lot of USB Flash Drives out there having unlikely shapes and characteristics. Multi-functional flash drives seem to get the most attention because they don’t only serve as portable memory storage devices; they also come in a variety of hybrid features. Examples of flash drives that combine data storage with functionality are mp3 players, digital cameras, key chains, writing pens, and other company promotional items.

Many newer motherboards have the option in the BIOS settings to boot from a USB drive. Some flavors of popular operating systems, including a scaled down version of Linux, are designed to work on the USB or UFD. Creating a live drive can be a great way to test out a new operating system without installing it on the computer’s internal hard drive.
Whether backing up data files, archiving programs, or building a portable music library, the Lexar USB drive is a great investment with a humble price tag. UFDs are sold everywhere electronics are sold.

According to Larry Swezey from Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, the IT industry is moving from the “Information Age” established in 1971 to the current, newly coined “Tera Era”. In the beginning of the Information Age hard drives had a capacity of one gig, and temporary storage (floppies) could be measured in kilo- and megabytes. Since then, how we view, use and store data has changed dramatically. Thanks to the internet and data storage evolution, we have come to expect more data, more quickly and with an array of features, preferably video, but audio will do. Never before have so many people had so much data at their fingertips, and our digital universe just keeps on expanding.

Swezey believes that there are three Cs that intersect at the centre of this data growth phenomenon: Culture, Capacity and Content, and that their collision will create a new world view of data. One consequence of which is a change in language, for instance, we will say goodbye to the gigabyte and make terabyte an IT language staple.

A terabyte is 1000GB, which is enormous. To provide a little perspective, Swezey cites some findings by IDC, a leading market intelligence and research firm. IDC estimates that the volume of digital data in the world is around 2.81 exabytes (EB), which is 2.81 million terabytes (TB), and that was in 2007. Going by volume, 2.81 million TB is bigger than the number of stars in the universe. And if your jaw isn’t on the floor yet, IDC pulls another staggering statistic out of the bag: the amount of digital data in the world will grow by a factor of 10 every five years, which means that in 15 years time, there will be more data on Earth than there are atoms in the universe.
